History
It is thought that the first settlement in Marmaris, whose history dates back to 3400 BC, began with the arrival of a tribe in to the region, whose leader was called Kar. The area was then called Karla after him, and its location around the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas always made it an appealing region.
Climate
Summers are extremely hot and dry, with daytime temperature reachs up to 35 degrees, and the winters are warm and wet, plunging to 5 degrees at night. The area is quite typical of a Mediterranean climate.

Marmaris Shopping
Marmaris is a great place for shoppers. Those who like to try their hand at bartering will love the covered market where they will find many original craft items. Here you find good quality carpets, leather goods and jewellery. The Sunday market is the busiest with over two hundred stalls. Apart from the markets there are some good clothes shops and a large number of beach and gift stores.
Marmaris Eating
Marmaris claims to have over a thousand bars and restaurants so it should be possible to find dishes that appeal to everyone’s palate. There are some excellent fish restaurants where only the freshest of ingredients are used. Traditional Turkish fare is very tasty and includes stuffed peppers and vine leaves, kebabs and of course feta cheese, olive and tomato salads. Rice dishes are also popular.

A short journey from Marmaris is Ephesus, one of the best preserved archaeological sites in the world, which shows examples of Roman life that are second only to Pompeii.
