Alicante is replete with ancient architecture, such as the medieval blue-domed church of Santa Maria with it's Michelangelo-inspired lettering. Ride the streetcars around the wide, palm-strewn streets to your destination, be it the nearby safari parks packed with exotic wildlife, or out of the city (and recorded history) to the prehistoric caves and Iberian ruins around the borders. There are plenty of museums, some of the finest in Spain in fact - so history buffs can content themselves on their Alicante holidays!
Beaches
There are soft sandy beaches located right by the city and provide respite and relaxation for Alicante's inhabitants. Playa del Postiguet is a picturesque stretch of fine sand that is ideal for swimming or al fresco lunches in the many beach front cafes and offers a wonderful setting for evening strolls in the sand. Other more isolated beaches can be found a short bus ride away and provide peaceful sunbathing and pretty coastal scenery to enjoy.
Going on holidays to Spain is surely what dreams are made of, but there's nowhere quite like the Costa Blanca, in the middle of the sapphire Mediterranean Coast. Perfectly situated between the frenzied heat of the Costa del Sol and the cooler Costa Dorada to the north, the 'White Coast' is just that - miles and miles of pristine sands in one of the world's most beautiful regions - Alicante.
So where better to go on your Spanish jaunt than the city of Alicante itself, the heart of the Costa Blanca, where centuries of culture co-exist with a vibrant city life and those gorgeous beaches. Alicante has it's own Airport, too - so you're a two-hour flight away from the Costa Blanca holidays of your dreams!
Festivals
Festivals, fiestas and carnivals take place all year round in Alicante and throughout the Costa Blanca and offer visitors a uniquely colourful image of the local religious and cultural traditions of this part of Spain. Many commemorate famous battles between the Moors and Christians or dates of religious importance and often involve days of celebrations with street markets, fireworks displays, bonfires and noisy street parades. This is an ideal opportunity to witness traditional local dancing and music and to sample delicious local snacks in a genuinely friendly and festive atmosphere.
Weather
Alicante holidays mean sun, sea and sangria - and these are plentiful all year round. The temperature reaches an apex in the early 30s° Celsius in the summer, but even in December it averages around 12° Celsius. Whether you're on the white beaches or lazing by the hotel pool, it's time to get tanned!
